Virginia Track and Field/Cross Country Adds To Recruiting Class

CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia track and field and cross country programs announced eight additions to the Cavaliers’ 2015 recruiting class on Monday. Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Bryan Fetzer announced that these eight athletes have either signed a National Letter of Intent or have signed a letter of admission and will join the five women and seven men who signed with UVa in November to form the incoming class of 2015-16.
“We are very excited about this recruiting class overall,” said Fetzer. “We continue to build on the previous class. I expect that this group, when added to the signing class in the fall, will set us up for years to come.”
The class includes athletes who will compete in sprints, hurdles, distance, jumps and multi-events for the Cavaliers.
VIRGINIA MEN’S TRACK & FIELD/CROSS COUNTRY SPRING SIGNING CLASS
Devin Barnes • Middle Distance • Henrico, Va. (Hermitage)
• Six-time Virginia state champion (three-time 4x400m, two-time 500m, 4x200m)
• Two-time New Balance All-American in the sprint medley relay
• 2014 National Champion in the SMR (anchored with a 1:51.4 split)
• PRs of 49.51 in the 400m and 1:54.25 in the 800m
Mikhail Bethell • Sprints/Hurdles • Nassau, Bahamas (St. Andrew’s School)
• Two-time National High School 400m hurdles champion
• Bahamas Junior National U18 400m hurdles champion
• PR of 54.72 in the 400mH
Charles Bowman • Sprints/Hurdles • Harrisburg, Pa. (Central Dauphin East)
• Seventh in the 60m hurdles at the 2015 Pennsylvania Indoor State Championships
• Seventh in the 300m hurdles at the 2015 Pennsylvania Outdoor Championships
• PRs of 8.11 in the 60mH, 14.43 in the 110mH, 39.00 in the 300mH and 48.70 in the 400m

• 2015 Virginia 1600m state champion
• Four-time All-State (two-time cross country, two-time track)
• Three time All-Met Cross Country and two-time All-Met Track
• PRs of 4:16.1 in the 1600m, 9:23.2 in the 3200m, 15:00 in the three mile and 15:28 in the 5000m
