ITA Atlantic Regional Results, Draws, Live Video | Saturday Recap | Friday Recap

BLACKSBURG, VA. – Two Virginia men’s tennis players advanced to the quarterfinals in the main draw of the 2015 ITA Atlantic Regional on Sunday (Oct. 18), being held at Virginia Tech’s Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.

Sophomore Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.) and senior Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) advanced the quarterfinals with two wins on Sunday. Wiersholm topped Penn State’s Christian Lutschaunig 6-2, 6-3, and the tournament’s top seed, Virginia Tech’s Andreas Bjerrehus, 6-3, 7-5, to earn a place in Monday’s quarterfinals. Styslinger logged wins over Penn State’s Marc Collado, 6-1, 6-4, and George Washington’s Danil Zelenkov, 7-5, 6-2.

Wiersholm will face Penn State’s Aws Laaribi and Styslinger takes on Old Dominion’s Adam Moundir in Monday’s quarterfinal matches.

Two other Cavaliers also competed on Sunday. Redshirt junior Harrison Richmond (Pawley’s Island, S.C.) fell to Laaribi 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 32. Junior Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) advanced to the round of 16 with a 7-6(6), 1-6, 7-5 win over GW’s Julius Tverijonas, but retired in the third set against Virginia Tech’s Edoardo Tessaro (3-6, 6-3, ret.).

Monday’s slate will start at 9:30 a.m. with the doubles semifinals. Singles quarterfinals will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by the singles semifinals. Doubles and singles finals will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The singles and doubles champions at the Regionals will earn spots at next month’s ITA National Indoor Championships at the UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
