ITA Atlantic Regional Results, Draws, Live Video | Friday Recap

BLACKSBURG, VA. – On Saturday, Oct. 17, four Cavaliers advanced to the Round of 32 in the main draw of the 2015 ITA Atlantic Regional, being held at Virginia Tech’s Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Va.

Sophomore Henrik Wiersholm (Kirkland, Wash.), in his first match of the tournament, logged a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Richmond’s James Aronson. Redshirt junior Harrison Richmond (Pawley’s Island, S.C.) battled back from down a set to Georgetown’s Marco Lam for a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (6) victory. Junior Luca Corinteli (Alexandria, Va.) downed Richmond’s Caleb Troy 6-3, 6-0 and senior Mac Styslinger (Birmingham, Ala.) won 6-3, 6-0 against Georgetown’s Michael Chen. Senior Jonathan Cornish (London, England) was eliminated with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) loss to George Washington’s Danil Zelenkov.

In doubles action, Styslinger and Cornish, the top-seeded duo in the doubles draw and the lone Cavaliers to advance to the Round of 32, fell 8-7 (3) to James Madison’s Tristan Stitt and Maxi Branth.

Sunday’s slate will start with a round of doubles at 9:30 a.m. before the singles round of 32 followed by the singles round of 16 matches. Three Cavaliers will be facing Penn State players in the Round of 32 with Wiersholm taking on Christian Lutschaunig, Richmond Aws Laaribi and Styslinger Marc Collado. Corinteli faces George Washington’s Julius Tverijonas.

The tournament runs through Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The singles and doubles champions at the Regionals will earn spots at next month’s ITA National Indoor Championships at the UTSA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York.
