No. 4 UVA Takes Four of Five Races vs. No. 6 Yale

Earlysville, Va. – Racing in cool and wet conditions, the No. 4 Virginia rowing team took four of five races against No. 6 Yale on Saturday (March 19) at the Rivanna Reservoir. Virginia posted wins in the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Four.
In the featured race, the Cavaliers’ Varsity Eight fought back to defeat the Bulldogs 6:28.4 to 6:29.7. UVA cruised to a win in the Second Varsity Eight with a time of 6:35.1 while Yale finished at 6:39.7.
“It was great collegiate boat racing,” said Virginia coach Kevin Sauer. “I was especially proud of the Varsity 8 being a half length down and fighting back for the win. Yale was race ready and rowed hard all day and we were fortunate to get some wins today. Many thanks to Yale for coming.”
The Bulldogs picked up their lone win with an impressive performance in the Varsity Four race. The Bulldogs crossed the finish line in 7:11.4 while UVA finished in 7:19.
The UVA Second Varsity Four posted the team’s widest margin of victory with a time of 7:20.4 while Yale was second at 7:29.3 and the UVA b-boat was third at 7:42.9. The Cavalier Third Varsity Four b-crew won its race with a time of 7:24.3 while Yale was second at 7:31.5 and the UVA a-crew was third at 7:39.7.
The No. 4 Cavaliers return to action at Ohio State on Saturday, April 2, competing against the host Buckeyes and Michigan.
