Virginia Takes Both Races at Rivanna Romp

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – The Virginia rowing team concluded its fall season with a pair of victories at the Rivanna Romp on Sunday morning (Nov. 13) on the Rivanna Reservoir. The regatta featured crews from Clemson, Columbia, Duke, Louisville, Pennsylvania and the host Cavaliers.
The Cavaliers’ Varsity Eight A picked up their 11th consecutive win at the Rivanna Romp, completing the 4,000-meter course with a winning time of 13:01.1. Duke edged UVA’s Varsity Eight B 13:20.1-13:20.4. Penn finished fourth in 13:22.9 followed by Louisville in 13:26.9. UVA’s C and D Varsity Eight boats placed seventh and 13th in 13:43.9 and 14:02.2, respectively.
In the Varsity Four race, UVA claimed five of the top seven spots, including four of the top five boats. The Cavaliers’ Varsity Four A placed first with a time of 14:24.3, followed by Duke in 14:52.7 and UVA’s Varsity Four B at 14:56. The Cavaliers’ Varsity Four C placed fourth in 15:01.1 and UVA’s Varsity Four D placed fifth in 15:06.9. The Cavaliers’ Varsity Four E placed seventh in 15:14.5. UVA’s Varsity Four G placed 14th at 15:38.1 and the Cavaliers’ Varsity Four F placed 23rd in 15:56.2.
Virginia also placed second in the Novice Eight race in 14:26.6. Louisville won the race in 14:24.9.
