Kiser Named a CoSIDA Football Academic All-American

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia inside linebacker Micah Kiser has been named to the 2016 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic Football All-America team. Kiser is being recognized as one of the nation’s top-student athletes for his combined performance athletically and in the classroom. Kiser was awarded second-team honors.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution.

Kiser (Jr., Baltimore, Md.), a first-team All-ACC honoree, ranks No. 1 in the ACC and is tied for No. 3 in the nation with 11.2 tackles per game. His 134 total stops rank No. 2 in the nation and is tied with Wali Rainer for the fourth-most single-season tackles in program history. Kiser also ranks No. 4 in the nation in forced fumbles (5) and No. 2 in the ACC and No. 10 in the nation in sacks by a linebacker (6.5). Kiser is a semifinalist for the Butkus Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy.

Kiser is one of four ACC players who earned either first- or second-team honors. Syracuse tight end Cameron MacPherson and Duke defensive lineman A.J. Wolf were named to the first team, while Boston College defensive lineman Kevin Kavalec joins Kiser on the second team.

Kiser is UVA’s first CoSIDA Academic All-American since defensive back Stephen Phelan earned first-team honors in 1997. Kiser is UVA’s first linebacker to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors since Tom Burns was a first-team honoree in 1992 and 1993.
