CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia’s Edward Opoku (So., Rye, N.Y.) and Sergi Nus (So., Barcelona, Spain) each were named to the 2016 NSCAA Men’s All-South Region Team, announced Tuesday by the NSCAA. Opoku was a first-team selection at forward, while Nus earned a spot on the third team at defender.

Opoku finished second on the team with six goals, including five game-winning scores. He also added a pair of assists. Opoku ranks second in the ACC in game-winning goals and 13th overall in goals. The speedy forward played and started in 18 matches while taking a team-high 42 shots. Opoku claimed All-ACC laurels for the second straight season, taking second-team honors after earning third-team laurels in 2015.

Nus joined UVA this season as a transfer from Fresno Pacific and served as the center back in the Cavaliers’ three-man back line. The third-team All-ACC selection started all 20 matches and played all but 10 minutes this year, recording the most minutes of any UVA field player. He helped spearhead UVA’s defensive resurgence in the middle of the season, as the Cavaliers recorded nine clean sheets, including eight in the final 13 matches.
