CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. ÃÆ’Æ‘¢ÃƒÆ’¢’¬” A busy summer baseball season came to a conclusion this past weekend for members of the Virginia baseball team. Here are some quick highlights from the summer schedule.

Lynch Has Big Summer at Cape
Rising junior southpaw Daniel Lynch had a breakout summer while playing for the Orleans Firebirds and was named a Cape Cod League All-Star. In six starts totaling 30 1/3 innings, Lynch was 4-0 with a 2.07 ERA. He allowed 25 hits and walked only three batters.

McCarthy Plays for National Team and at Cape
Jake McCarthy saw plenty of high-level competition this summer, first competing for the United States Collegiate National Team before heading to the Cape to play for the Harwich Mariners.

Heading into his third year at UVA, McCarthy played in 20 games (14 starts) with the national team, batting .232 with six RBI and three stolen bases. In nine games with the Mariners, McCarthy batted .387 (12-for-31) with a home run, six RBI and five stolen bases.

Eikhoff Stars in NECBL
Nate Eikhoff was having a huge summer with the Keene SwampBats of the NECBL before an injury cut his summer short. Eikhoff was named a league all-star and also was a First-Team All-NECBL honoree. He batted .371 (43-for-116) in 28 games with 10 doubles, a home run and 24 RBI.

Weber Honored in Northwoods League
Rising junior Andy Weber was named a Postseason All-Star in the Northwoods Summer League. Playing for the Thunder Bay Border Cats, Weber batted .289 (59-204) in 49 games. He hit nine doubles and a triple while driving in 15.

Allocca Has Solid Summer in PGCBL
Catcher Will Allocca batted .281 (41-for-146) with three doubles, a home run and 28 RBI in 39 games for the Newark Pilots of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League. Allocca also was named to the PGCBL Prospect Game.

Allocca redshirted his first year at UVA.

Donahue Completes Strong Summer as Starter
Rising junior pitcher Grant Donahue started all summer for the Elmira Pioneers and produced great results. Donahue was 3-1 with a 2.15 ERA in eight starts, working 37 2/3 innings and allowing 26 hits and 20 walks while striking out 39. Donahue was named to the PGCBL All-Star Team.

Nicholson Finishes Summer in Big Fashion
Rising sophomore pitcher Bobby Nicholson also had a standout summer, going 3-1 with a 2.22 ERA in eight appearances (four starts) for the Keene SwampBats in the NECBL. He struck out 37 and walked nine batters in 28 1/3 innings.

After giving up five earned runs in four innings in his first three outings, Nicholson gave up just two earned runs over his final 24 1/3 innings during his final five appearances. He also joined Eikhoff on the NECBL All-Star Team and worked one scoreless inning in the All-Star Game.

Blakely Earns All-Star Honors in PGCGL
Rising sophomore catcher Drew Blakely was named a Cal Ripken League All-Star while competing for the Baltimore Redbirds. Blakely batted .298 (34-for-114) with 17 RBI in 33 games.
