CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia wrestling team hits the road for its first dual matches of the season, traveling to the Journeymen Northeast Collegiate Duals to take on Kent State and No. 12 Rutgers on Saturday Shenendehowa High School in Clifton Park, N.Y.

CAVALIERS IN THE RANKINGS
The Cavaliers have a trio of wrestlers in the national rankings heading into the second week of competition according to InterMat Wrestling. Redshirt freshman Louie Hayes (Orland Park, Ill.) is ranked No. 18 at 125 pounds, while sophomore and returning All-American Jack Mueller (Dallas, Texas) is No. 8 at 133 pounds. Redshirt junior Will Schany (Blair, Neb.) rounds out the ranked wrestlers for UVA, coming in at No. 20 at 174 pounds.

A LOOK AT KENT STATE
Kent State enters the Journeymen Duals with a 3-0 record in dual matches after picking up three victories last weekend at Clarion. The Golden Flashes defeated Lake Erie, Mercyhurst North East and Utah Valley. The Golden Flashes have one nationally-ranked wrestler in the InterMat rankings with Casey Sparkman coming in at No. 18 at 157 pounds.

A LOOK AT RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights, who are ranked No. 12 nationally in the USA Today/NWCA Coaches poll, enter the Journeymen Duals after opening the season with a 27-9 win over Maryland in a dual match last weekend. Rutgers will face the Cavaliers in the second match of the day after taking on No. 19 Oklahoma at 11:30 a.m. Rutgers has six wrestlers ranked in the top 20 of their respective weight classes by InterMat.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE HOOS
Virginia opened the season at the Clarion Open last weekend with a pair of champions in their weight class and three more wrestlers placing. Hayes went 5-0 at 125 pounds and defeated No. 19 Jake Gromacki of Clarion in the finals to win his weight class. Schany went 5-0 at 174 pounds and defeated No. 18 Devin Skatzka of Indiana to win his weight class.

Placing third for the Hoos was redshirt sophomore Sam Krivus (Greensburg, Pa.) at 149 pounds, while fourth-place finishers were freshman Jake Keating (Naperville, Ill.) at 149 pounds and redshirt senior Andrew Atkinson (Lynchburg, Va.) at 165 pounds.

UP NEXT FOR THE HOOS
Virginia will continue to compete in New York on Sunday with the Cavaliers having six wrestlers competing in the MyHouse Northeast Collegiate Classic, a round-robin tournament. Virginia will also prepare for its first home dual against Gardner-Webb on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at the Aquatic and Fitness Center on Grounds at UVA.
