CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The brackets and seeds for the 2018 ACC Championships were announced on Tuesday (Feb. 27) following a vote of the league’s coaches. The event will be held Saturday (March 3) at North Carolina’s Carmichael Arena.

Action begins at 11 a.m., with the Championship Finals set for 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $10 for adults. Admission is free for youth 18 and under. ACC students are admitted free with a valid student ID. The Championship will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra with links available at VirginiaSports.com.

Two Cavaliers earned first-round byes by virtue of being selected one of the top two seeds in their weight class. Redshirt freshman Louie Hayes (Orland Park, Ill.) is the top seed at 125 pounds, while senior Andrew Atkinson (Lynchburg, Va.) is the two seed at 165 pounds.

Hayes is 28-5 on the season and went a perfect 5-0 in ACC competition to earn the top seed at 125 pounds. He is currently ranked No. 15 in the latest InterMat rankings. Atkinson is 16-6 on the season and went 4-1 in ACC competition. His lone loss came at the hands of the top-seeded David McFadden.

Seeds and brackets can change up until 5 p.m. on Friday (March 2).

The championships serve as the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships. The ACC has been allotted 34 automatic qualifiers; the breakdown by weight class: 125: 2, 133: 5, 141: 3, 149: 4, 157: 3, 165: 2, 174: 4, 184: 3, 197: 3, 285: 5. To earn the automatic qualifier, each wrestler must finish a certain place or higher at the conference championships (e.g., place in top two at 125 pounds).
