CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Senior Andrew Abbott (Republican Grove, Va.) was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday (May 3) as announced by the league office. He’s the first Cavalier since 2018 to collect the honor.

In Virginia’s 18-1 victory over Virginia Tech on Friday (April 30), Abbott tossed seven innings of four-hit baseball and allowed only an unearned run to cross. He struck out eight batters and did not issue a walk for the second-straight start. He fanned five of the first seven batters he faced and turned in his fifth quality start of the season. Abbott was credited with his fifth win of the year, a career-high. Virginia has won the last six games in which he’s started.

In the process, Abbott vaulted to sole possession of fifth all-time in UVA history with 264 strikeouts. He currently leads the ACC and ranks third in all of college baseball with 99 strikeouts this season.
