CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia women’s basketball head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton announced today (April 13) that Janko Popovic has been named the team’s video coordinator and Jazmin Horne the director of basketball operations.

Popovic comes to Virginia after spending two seasons working at Marshall. He began his Thundering Herd tenure as the video coordinator before becoming an assistant coach for the 2021-22 season. Prior to Marshall, Popovic was the video coordinator for Texas Tech Women’s Basketball for the 2019-20 season. In 2018-19, he worked for the Serbian national team as a training camp coach in preparation for a bronze-medal run in EuroBasket 2019 in Serbia and Latvia. He returned in the summer of 2021 as an assistant coach/scout and helped lead the team to the gold at Spain’s EuroBasket 2021 and a fourth-place finish at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Popovic served as the Director of Operations and Video Coordinator for Robert Morris Women’s Basketball during the 2017-18 season.

“I’m super excited to announce Janko,” Agugua-Hamilton said. “His experience goes beyond women’s college basketball. It reaches all the way overseas where he has coached and scouted for the Serbian National Team. Janko is extremely hard-working, loyal, respectful and simply a joy to be around. I am super blessed to welcome him into our Wahoo family and know that he will help us continue to self-scout and scout opponents at a very high level!”

Horne comes to UVA after serving as the director of basketball operations and multimedia at Temple under head coach and Virginia alumna Tonya Cardoza. Additionally, she volunteered on the Title IX committee planning events and strategic marketing to celebrate the legislation’s 50th anniversary.  Horne worked with the women’s basketball program at Bellevue College as an assistant coach for the 2017-18 season. During her stint at Bellevue, Horne assisted in leading the Bulldogs to the Northwest Athletic Conference Final Four. Her other duties included scouting and recruiting potential players for the following season, scouting opposing teams before contests and creating content for various social media platforms. Horne graduated from St. Joseph’s in 2017 with a B.S. in business administration in marketing and was a two-year member of the Hawks women’s basketball team. She will earn her master’s in communication management in May 2022 from Temple’s Klein College of Media and Communication.

“I am thrilled to welcome Jasmine to our family,” Agugua-Hamilton said. “She has great experience on the operational side and is a grinder. She prides herself in being proactive, forward-thinking and organized, all key components in managing basketball operations. She is a high character, all-around good person who will fit seamlessly into our Wahoo family!”
