CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Sophomore Jake Gelof was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District First Team on Friday (May 13). First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. All-America selections will be announced in June.

Gelof, a media studies major, is having a breakout season on the field for the Cavaliers. The Rehoboth Beach, Del. native leads the Cavaliers in nearly every offensive category. For the season he’s batting .376 (65-for-173) with 17 home runs and 68 RBI in 47 games played. Going into the series against Clemson, Gelof ranks fifth in the country in RBI and ninth in slugging percentage (.780). He was named the D1 Baseball Midseason Player of the Year and played his way onto the Golden Spikes Award Watch List, an honor annually bestowed on the nation’s best amateur baseball player. As a freshman last season, Gelof was a member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll.

District 3 honorees include student-athletes from schools in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. The 2022 Academic All-District baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. To qualify, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
