Kat Barnes has been an assistant athletic trainer at Virginia since 2018, where she works with the men’s and women’s track and field teams. Barnes is responsible for the overall daily health care of UVA student-athletes, including prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation for injuries and illnesses.Prior to coming to Virginia, Barnes spent two years at Kansas, working primarily with the men’s and women’s track and field and cross country teams.

Barnes received her bachelors degree in athletic training from Baylor in 2014. While at Baylor, she worked with a variety of teams, including football, women’s soccer, baseball, acrobatics and tumbling, and men’s and women’s track and field and cross country.

Barnes finished her masters at Houston, working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the women’s softball team.

Barnes is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the College Athletic Trainers’ Society, and also spent time at Baylor acting as a first responder for Special Olympics events.
