SEATTLE, Wash.–The University of Virginia women’s rowing team’s varsity eight finished third behind Great Britain’s National Team and the University of Washington in the Opening Day Regatta of the Women’s Windermere Cup on Saturday (May 2).
Great Britain’s National Team won the race on Montlake Cut with a time of 6:37.2 followed by Washington (6:48.5) and Virginia (6:51.3).
“This is a major United States regatta and our finish is the closest any collegiate team has come to Washington this season,” UVa head coach Kevin Sauer said. “There were over 100,000 people in attendance lining both banks of Montlake Cut. Washington is ranked number one in the country and is the defending NCAA Champion.”
Virginia competes at the Eastern Sprints in New Preston, Conn., on May 10.
