Cavaliers Finish Third at Women’s Rowing Championships

GAINESVILLE, Ga.–The University of Virginia’s second varsity eight finished first to lead the Cavaliers to a third place finish in the team competition at the NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships at Lake Lanier on Sunday (May 31). Virginia finished sixth in both the first varsity eight and the varsity four competitions.

The University of Washington defended its team championship by finishing first in the team competition with 91 points. Brown finished second in the team competition with 85 points followed by Virginia (76), Massachusetts (72), Michigan (70), Princeton (62), Harvard (54) and Dartmouth (36).

UVa won the grande final of the second varsity eight with a time of 7:11.20. Washington was second with a time of 7:12.50 followed by Brown (7:13.70), Princeton (7:17.50), Michigan (7:19.70) and Massachusetts (7:27.50).

The Cavaliers finished sixth in the grande final of the first varsity eight with a time of 7:08.60. Washington won the first varsity eight competition with a time of 6:52.00 followed by Massachusetts (6:55.30), Brown (6:57.00), Northeastern (7:00.70), Michigan (7:02.20) and Virginia.

Virginia finished sixth in the grande final of the varsity four with a time of 8:12.20. Southern California won the varsity four competition with a time of 7:52.10 followed by Brown (7:55.10), North Carolina (7:57.60), Washington (7:59.20), Williams (8:00.90) and Virginia.

Washington, Brown and Virginia were the only schools to have boats in all three grande final races on Sunday.

It was the second NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships. Virginia finished fourth in the team competition at the first NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships last year.
