Indianapolis, IN — Virginia senior Andrea Saathoff (Indiatlantic, Fla./Melbourne) will represent the United States at the Under-23 World Championships in Ioannina, Greece, in July as a member of the US Under-23 National Rowing team. Saathoff was named to the team following her silver medal performance at the 1998 US Elite National Championships held this weekend in Indianapolis.
Saathoff and Cavalier teammate Michelle Giller (Princeton, N.J./The Hun School) were members of the second-place boat in the fours without coxswain race. Saathoff later teamed with Sarah Harrick (Arlington, Va./Washington & Lee) on the bronze medal-winning boat in the 8s race. Cavalier Jenny Sherman (Needham, Mass./Noble & Greenough), who was one of ten invitees to a freshman camp at the Elite Championships, was on the bronze medal boat in the fours with coxswain.
Saathoff will join the US team in Ioannina, Greece, at the World Under-23 Championships from July 19-26.
The Cavaliers finished third in the 1998 NCAA Rowing Championships held in Gainesville, Georgia. It is the second consecutive year that the Cavaliers have finished in the top four of the NCAA Championships, the only two years that the NCAA has sponsored a national championship in rowing.
