Women’s Crew Holds on to Top Three Rankings

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — The University of Virginia women’s varsity eight and lightweight eight maintained their ranking in the second 1999 regular-season national collegiate coaches Top 20 polls conducted by USRowing. The varsity eight is ranked second in the nation and the lightweight eight is ranked third.

In the varsity eight rankings, Washington is ranked first followed by Virginia, Brown, California-Berkeley and Southern California. In the lightweight eight rankings, Princeton is ranked first followed by Villanova, Virginia, Wisconsin and Radcliffe.

The Virginia women’s rowing team has a home competition against California-Berkeley and Michigan State at Lake Monticello on Saturday (April 17). Virginia competes against Michigan State and Navy competes against California-Berkeley at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The afternoon session begins at two o’clock with Virginia competing against California-Berkeley and Navy competing against Michigan State.
