CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia soccer captains Angela Hucles(Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy) and Carryn Weigand (Burke, Va./Paul VI) wereboth named to the Soccer America Team of the Week for September 26, 1999.Both of them scored game-winners in the Cavaliers’ two wins in the 1999Coca-Cola Classic last weekend.
Hucles hit the game-winner in the 88th minute in the Stanford gamethat capped a three-goal comeback against the then-#23 Cardinal. Hucles fedJill Maxwell (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) for the first goal and then hit thegame-winner off a feed from Katie Tracy (Richmond, Va./James River), whowas a member of the Soccer America team last week.
On Sunday, Weigand’s header in the 55th minute stood up as thegame-winner as the Cavaliers upset the previously undefeated and then-#7Hawks.
This is the first selection this year for both players.
Virginia, ranked #10 in the Coaches’ poll, will travel to Clemsonfor a game against #15 Clemson on Saturday, Oct. 2. Game time against theTigers is 8:00 pm.
