CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.–After a scoreless first half, the Tribe’sMissy Wycinsky found the back of the net in the 67th minute, capitalizingon a failed clear, to capture William & Mary’s 1-0 victory.
Wycinski, the Tribe’s leading point scorer, took advantage of amissed clear by the Virginia defense. Megan Boehm’s (Columbia, Mo./Howard)clear rebounded off a William & Mary attacker and almost sailed into thenet but it was cleared off the line by Ashley Meeker (Zanoni, Va./HamptonRoadsAcademy). Unfortunately, Meeker’s clear went directly to the feet ofWycinski at the top of the box who sent the ball into the open net.
William & Mary’s victory furthers their lead in the series againstthe Cavaliers to 9-7-1. The long rivalry showed in the physically emotionalgame. A total of 21 fouls were called throughout the duration of the game.
Virginia plays at home again on Friday, October 8 against 1998 NCAAChampion Florida at 7:00 p.m.
