Men’s Golf Loses Tournament Of Champions In Playoff

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Virginia golf team tied Augusta State at five-under par but lost the team title in a playoff at the Coca-Cola Tournament of Champions at the Holston Hills Country Club (par 72, 6,932 yards). Augusta State posted a team score of even par on the first playoff hole to better The Cavalier’s team score of one-over par for the hole. Augusta State’s Michael Webb won the individual title on the third playoff hole, defeating Tennessee’s Andrew Black.

Virginia’s James Driscoll finished fourth in the individual standings after shooting three-under par today. He finished the tournament with a season-best total of 211 (72-70-69). Mike Mitchell finished in a three-way tie for sixth place at two-under for the tournament (73-70-71=214). Steve Marino finished at one over for the tournament which put him in a four-way tie 12th place (74-72-71=217). Cameron Yancey finished at seven-over for the tournament to finish 38th (72-77-74=223) tied with teammate Shivin Kwatra (70-75-78=223).

Virginia’s team score of 859 was its best showing of the year and its lowest score since the 1998 ACC Tournament.
