Rowers Have Strong Showing In Head Of The Charles Regatta

BOSTON, Mass. — The University of Virginia women’s rowing team finished in the top five in all four events in which it competed and finished no worse than second among collegiate crews in those events at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday (Oct. 24).

Virginia finished fifth overall and second among collegiate boats in the Championship Eight. The top three finishers all represented national teams. Rowing Canada won the event with a time of 16:31 followed by United States Rowing (16:32), the Danish National Team (16:36), the University of Southern California (17:06) and Virginia (17:16). Michigan finished sixth followed by Brown, Princeton, Wisconsin and Boston University.

In the Championship Four, Rowing Canada finished first with a time of 18:29.9 followed by the University of California (18:30), Virginia (19:13) and Brown (19:18). Among the other top collegiate boats in the competition were Michigan State with a ninth place finish (20:00), Wisconsin in 10th place (20:05) and Princeton in 11th place (20:08).

In the Lightweight Four, Virginia finished second and was the top collegiate boat with a time of 19:02. The Argonaut Rowing Club of Ontario was first with a time of (18:53). Wisconsin finished third (19:39) followed by the New York Athletic Club (19:57) and Princeton (19:58).

Harvard won the Youth Eight with a time of 17:51 and Virginia finished fourth at 17:57. Rowing clubs from Canada finished second and third. Other top collegiate boats included Boston University in sixth place (18:15), Duke seventh (18:26), Brown eighth (18:28) and Yale ninth (18:30).
