SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Former University of Virginia swimmer Ed Moses (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) won a silver medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at the Olympic Games Sunday (September 17). Moses recorded a time of 1:00.73 in the finals at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre.
Domenico Fioravanti of Italy, who swam the fastest times in the first two rounds, won the gold medal with an Olympic record time of 1:00.46. Moses finished just 27 hundredths of a second behind Fioravanti. Current world record holder Roman Sloudnov of Russia earned the bronze medal with a time of 1:00.91. Moses beat Sloudnov by 18 hundredths of a second in the Olympic finals.
Moses, the 2000 NCAA Champion in the 100 and 200-meter breaststroke, will now focus on swimming the breaststroke leg of the USA’s 400-meter medley relay. The heats for the 400 medley relay take place Thursday, September 21.
