CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Virginia men’s tennis team had three singles players lose in the qualifying rounds of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Region II Tournament Thursday (November 2).

Second-year Michael Duquette (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy), third-year Jonathan Chou (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads Academy), and fourth-year Brian Hunter (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) all lost second-round matches and were eliminated from the ITA Regional Tournament. Duquette lost his second-round match to Wake Forest’s David Loewenthal, 6-3, 7-6. Chou also lost in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, to Duke’s Alex Bose, while Hunter fell to Matt Davis from William and Mary, 6-3, 6-1.

With the losses, only three Virginia athletes remain in the main draw. Hunter plays a main draw doubles match later tonight with partner Tommy Croker (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens). The duo received an automatic bid into the doubles main draw. Croker and fourth-year Huntley Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C./ Chapel Hill) are also scheduled to play main draw singles matches on Friday (November 3). Montgomery is the tournament’s fifth seed.
