CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Jason Bauman, an assistant athletic director for facilities and operations at the University of Virginia since January of 1997, has been promoted to associate director of athletics for facilities and game/event management. The announcement of Bauman’s promotion was made by Virginia Senior Associate Director of Athletics Craig Littlepage. Bauman replaces Mike Thomas who left Virginia to assume the responsibilities of athletic director at the University of Akron last month.

In his new position, Bauman is in charge of the day-to-day supervision of UVa’s athletic facilities, supervises the facilities and event management staffs, and directs all elements of events management. He is responsible for facility scheduling and the department’s master schedule, and serves as the athletic department’s liaison to UVa facilities management, parking and transportation, and the University police department.

“No one is better prepared to take over the management of our facilities and event operations,” Littlepage said. “Jason has earned the respect of our department staff, and has developed a good working relationship with key University units.”

Since arriving at Virginia, Bauman has handled all aspects of game management and served as tournament director for Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA events hosted by the athletic department for 21 of UVa’s 24 varsity programs. He assisted in game management operations for men’s and women’s basketball and football. Bauman also assisted in the management of athletic facilities, coordinated special events, oversaw the ushers and event ticket personnel, and managed Virginia’s summer camps program.

Before coming to Virginia, Bauman served as assistant athletic facilities coordinator at the University of Kentucky starting in July of 1995. He managed the field house, and assisted in overall facility operations and capital projects. He was also extensively involved in the game management of Kentucky intercollegiate athletic contests as well as Southeastern Conference and NCAA Championship events.

Bauman was field house manager at Kentucky from July of 1993 through June of 1995. Before that, he was an intern with the University of Kentucky Athletics Association from August of 1991 through June of 1993.

Bauman received his master’s degree in sports management from Western Illinois in December of 1991. He was assistant athletic business manager and assistant athletic ticket manager at Western Illinois from June of 1990 through July of 1991.

The native of Allison, Iowa, received his bachelor’s degree in business education from Buena Vista University (Iowa) in 1990. While there, Bauman was a four-year letterwinner on the baseball team.

Bauman is married to the former Kelly Reints of Allison, Iowa. The couple has two daughters, Taylor (4) and Brooke (1).
