Virginia head coach George Gelnovach praised his team’s efforts, “We’vebeen waiting for that game for about two or three weeks now. I thoughtwe played some pretty inspirational soccer tonight.” Gelnovach felt theshutout of the Blue Devils was a team effort. “Our defense was verygood. It wasn’t just our back four. Everyone got behind the ball. Weall played pretty motivated. I told the team everyone’s got to getbehind the ball, everyone’s got to help.”
Duke Coach John Rennie congratulated the Cavaliers on their victory andtheir efforts, “We felt whoever scored the first goal of the second halfwould win the game. If we would’ve gotten a goal it would’ve been adifferent game, but they got it and they deserved to win.” Rennie feltthat missed opportunities cost the Blue Devils the game. “We had ourchances, you know, Robbie Russell had a header and it hit the crossbar,so instead of 1-1 its 1-0. That’s what happens. Those are the breaksthat decide the game.”
