CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) – Schuye LaRue had 21 points and 18 rebounds andNo. 25 Virginia pulled away with a 16-3 run to start the second half Thursdaynight en route to an 83-76 victory against Richmond.
The Cavaliers (13-6) led just 36-29 at halftime, but forced seven turnoversin the first 2 1/2 minutes after the break to open a 52-32 lead. Virginia builtits lead as high as 24 on two occasions before the Spiders (9-8) scored 15 ofthe last 22 points.
Candice Edwards led Richmond with 29 points on 12-for-19 shooting, and AmberGoppert had 15 on 6-for-11 shooting. The rest of the Spiders shot 11-for-35.
Svetlana Volnaya added 16 points for the Cavaliers and Anna Prillaman had15.
LaRue, who had 13 points in the second half, had five during the early run,and Volnaya and Prillaman each had four. The Cavaliers forced 34 turnovers,including 19 after the break, while committing 20 of their 31 giveaways in thesecond half.
