Cavalier gridders Evan Routzahn and Ljubomir Stamenich are among 25 players named to the 2000 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic football team as announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford. To be eligible, a player must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the fall semester or have maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his academic career.

Routzahn, a junior guard from Middletown, Md., was one of the leaders along the offensive line who helped pave the way for the ACC’s leading rusher, Antwoine Womack. One of the top linemen in the nation who doesn’t get the attention he deserves, Routzahn will look to start for the third year in a row this fall.

Stamenich, a junior defensive end from Great Falls, Va., was the Cavaliers’ leading pass rusher last season with four sacks. A starter the last two years, he led UVa defensive tackles with 47 stops last fall.

Florida State’s Heisman Trophy winner Chris Weinke is one of one of eight players on the academic squad who earned first or second team All-ACC recognition this past fall. Other All-ACC selections named are Clemson’s Kyle Young and Will Merritt, Duke’s Mike Hart, Florida State’s Justin Amman, Jarad Moon and Chris Hope and North Carolina’s Jeff Reed.

Weinke and Young are among six players repeating from last year. The others are Duke’s Ben Erdeljac, Clemson’s Chad Carson, Florida State’s Chris Hope and Georgia Tech’s Dan Dyke.
