Two Divers To Represent Virginia At Zone B Diving Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – University of Virginia third-year Joe Piorkowski (Easton, Pa./Easton) and second-year Alison Sharp (Newton, Pa./Council Rock) will compete in the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships Friday and Saturday, March 9-10 at the University of Georgia’s Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Ga. Piorkowski and Sharp will compete in both the one and three-meter diving competitions.

The men’s one-meter diving competition begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, followed by the women’s three-meter competition at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, the men’s three-meter and women’s one-meter diving begins at 10:00 a.m.

Piorkowski competed in the NCAA Zone B Championships last year, finishing 26th on the three-meter board and 29th on the one-meter board. Piorkowski is coming off a third-place finish in the three-meter competition at the ACC Championships with a score of 486.60 points. He was also fifth on the one-meter board at ACCs with a score of 239.40 points.

Sharp is making her second appearance at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships. As a freshman last year, Sharp was 28th on the one-meter board and 33rd in the three-meter competition. Sharp scored 425.90 points to finish fourth on the three-meter board at the 2001 ACC Championships. She also placed sixth on the one-meter board at ACCs with 242.65 points.

A minimum of four men and four women will advance from the Zone B Diving Championships to the 2001 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships later this month.
