Four Virginia Players Earn All-ACC Men’s Basketball Honors

CHARLOTTESVILLE–University of Virginia sophomore forward/center Travis Watson (Brookneal, Va.) is a second-team selection, and sophomore guard Roger Mason (Silver Spring, Md.) and junior forward Chris Williams (Birmingham, Ala.) are third-team selections to the 2001 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Team. In addition, senior guard Donald Hand (Paterson, N.J.) is an honorable mention All-ACC selection and junior guard/forward Adam Hall (Katy, Texas) is a member of the All-ACC Defensive Team.

Watson led the ACC in double-doubles during the regular season with 12 and was second in the conference in rebounding with an average of 9.0 a game. He also averaged 12.5 points a game during the regular season.

Mason and Williams tied for the team lead in scoring at 15.0 points a game. Mason led the ACC in free throw shooting during the regular season (88.3 percent, 113-128), while Williams shot 51.6 percent (142-275) from the field and averaged 6.6 rebounds a game.

Hand finished the regular season ranked third in the ACC in assists (164, 6.1 apg.). He also averaged 12.7 points and 3.3 rebounds a game.

In addition to consistently guarding the opposing team’s top perimeter scorer, Hall is averaging 10.0 points and 5.4 rebounds a game, while making 52.1 percent (110-211) of his shots from the field.

The All-ACC first team consists of Shane Battier (Duke), Joseph Forte (North Carolina), Jason Williams (Duke), Juan Dixon (Maryland) and Alvin Jones (Georgia Tech). The All-ACC second team is comprised of Will Solomon (Clemson), Brendan Haywood (North Carolina), Lonny Baxter (Maryland), Josh Howard (Wake Forest) and Watson. The All-ACC third team consists of Terence Morris (Maryland), Jason Capel (North Carolina), Nate James (Duke), Mason and Williams. In addition to Hand, other players earning All-ACC honorable mention honors include Tony Akins (Georgia Tech), Darius Songailia (Wake Forest), Mike Dunleavy (Duke), Steve Blake (Maryland), Carlos Boozer (Duke), Anthony Grundy (North Carolina State) and Shaun Fein (Georgia Tech).

The All-ACC Defensive Team is comprised of Juan Dixon (Maryland), Brendan Haywood (North Carolina), Alvin Jones (Georgia Tech), Shane Battier (Duke) and Hall.
