Virginia Men’s Tennis Defeats Hampton, 6-1

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 48 University of Virginia men’s tennis team won its second consecutive match and third match of the season, 6-1, over Hampton University on Sunday (March 11) at Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville. Virginia improved its overall record against Hampton to 10-10 and moved its season record to 3-1 (0-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference).

The Cavaliers won the doubles point with a pair of victories at No. 1 and No. 2. Although Virginia lost at No. 3 doubles, it still captured the point by virtue of the other two victories.

In singles, fourth-years Brian Hunter (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill), Huntley Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) and Tommy Croker (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephens) all won handily at No. 5, No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, to give UVa three singles victories and cement the win. Croker clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Glavso Nascimento just minutes after Montgomery and Hunter posted their wins.

Fourth-year Brian Vahaly (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) and third-year Jonathan Chou (Newport News, Va./Hampton Roads Academy) also won their matches.
