EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – University of Virginia second-year Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia/Trinity Prep) finished sixth in the preliminaries of the 400-yard individual medley to advance to the championship final Friday (March 16) at the 2001 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the Nassua County Aquatic Center. First-year Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga./Marist School) placed ninth in the prelims of the 400-yard I.M. and missed gaining a berth in tonight’s championship final by just eight-hundredths of a second.
Bosevska, a two-time Olympian for Macedonia, clocked a time of 4:13.37 to finish sixth in the prelims of the 400 I.M. Baly placed ninth in the same event with a time of 4:14.98 and missed making the championship final by just eight-hundredths of a second. North Carolina’s Erika Acuff claimed the eighth spot with a time of 4:14.90. Georgia’s Keegan Walkley posted the top preliminary time at 4:11.11.
Fourth-year Megan Iffland (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark’s) turned in the Cavaliers’ next best finish in day two preliminaries as she placed 22nd in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 55.67. Virginia had two participants in the 200-yard freestyle. First-year Carlie Dykehouse (Gainesville, Fla./Trinity Prep) finished 39th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:49.86, while third-year Megan Roesch (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) was 48th in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.82.
The Cavaliers are tied with Penn State for 15th place with 23 points entering tonight’s second night of finals, which begin at 7:00 p.m. Compete results can be obtained at www.ncaa.org.
