MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The #48 University of Virginia men’s tennis team defeated its second ranked opponent in three days when it beat #57 Boise State, 4-0, at the Blue Gray National College Classic in Montgomery, Ala. on Saturday morning (March 17). The Cavaliers defeated #33 Tulsa on Thursday (March 15) for their other win over a ranked opponent. UVa is now 5-2 on the season.

Virginia dominated the doubles matches, winning at No. 1 and No. 2 to clinch the doubles point. UVa’s top team of Brian Vahaly (Atlanta, Ga./The Lovett School) and Huntley Montgomery (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) won 8-1 and the team’s second doubles pair of Tommy Croker (Alexandria, Ga./St. Stephens) and Michael Duquette (Virginia Beach, Va./Norfolk Academy) triumphed over Jonny Biorkman and Mark Edney, 8-4.

In singles, Montgomery, Vahaly and Duquette each won their singles matches in straight sets at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4, respectively, to clinch the 4-0 Cavalier win. The victory was Virginia’s second at the Blue Gray Classic. The Cavaliers’ only loss came to #26 Fresno State.

Virginia returns to action in one week when it travels to Wake Forest on Saturday (March 24) for an Atlantic Coast Conference showdown with the #32 Demon Deacons. That match will be followed by a Sunday meeting with #55 North Carolina.
