Virginia's Golf Team In Ninth Place At Cleveland Golf Collegiate

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of Virginia men’s golf team is in ninth place after the first day of competition at the Cleveland Golf Collegiate Championship at the Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, SC. Wake Forest leads the two-day tournament at the par 71, 6380-yard course with a total two round score of nine-over-par 577 (293, 284). Augusta State is six shots off the pace in second place (583), and Virginia Tech (586), Kansas (588), and Virginia Commonwealth (592) round out the top five teams. The Cavaliers are ninth after two rounds with a 36-over-par 604.
Coastal Carolina’s Rafael Vera leads the tournament after finishing the first day at five-under-par 137 with rounds of 71 and 66. Leading the way for Virginia is senior Cameron Yancey, who is currently tied for ninth with a score of four-over-par 146 (75, 71). Junior Steve Marino has a two-round total of 151 (76, 75) and is tied for 29th. Senior Mike Mitchell is 37th with a two-round total of 152 (77, 75). Freshmen Rusty Kennedy and Kevin O’Connell are tied for 47th with a two-round total of 155, after both shot a first round score of 77 and finished the second round with a score of 78.
