CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – The University of Virginia men’s golf team finished tied for 12th with Wake Forest at the Puerto Rico Classic in Palmer, Puerto Rico. Georgia Tech won the team title for the second consecutive year and finished at 3-under-par 861 (296-283-282). The Yellow Jackets and Clemson were the only teams to finish under par at the 54-hole event at the par-72, 6,945 yard Rio Mar Country Club. Lucas Glover of Clemson captured medalist honors with a score of 11-under-par 205 (68-70-67).
The Cavaliers finished the tournament with a 39-over-par 903 (299-305-299). Senior Cameron Yancey led Virginia in the final round firing a 71 and finished tied for 15th with a three-over-par 219 (77-71-71). Senior Mike Mitchell tied for 45th with a final score of 227 (75-76-76). Freshman Kevin O’Connell finished one stroke behind Mitchell with a 12-over-par 228 (73-79-76). Junior Steve Marino tied for 52nd with a score of 229 (74-79-76) and sophomore Justin Goodhue tied for 74th with a three-round score of 249 (83-80-86).
