AUSTIN, Texas – University of Virginia second-year Cara Lane (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) finished 16th in the 400-meter freestyle Thursday evening (March 29) at the Phillips 66 National Championships at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center. In addition, first-year Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga./Marist School) placed 41st in the 400 free.
Lane clocked a time of 4:23.66 in the “B” Final to finish in 16th place overall in the 400-meter freestyle. In the preliminaries, Lane touched in 4:18.75, which was the 14th fastest time of the prelims. Baly posted a time of 4:28.67 in the prelims to finish in 41st place of the 400 free.
Baly also claimed 14th place in the 400-meter individual medley on March 28. She posted a time of 4:54.18 in the “B” Final for her 14th place performance. In the prelims, Baly recorded a time of 4:53.88.
On Friday, Lane will compete in the 200-meter butterfly. Ed Moses, who set the world record in winning the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:00.29 on Wednesday, will compete in the 200 breast. He will be joined by first-year Gary Marshall (Bartlesville, Okla./Bartlesville) in the 200-meter breaststroke. First-year Luke Anderson (Charlottesville, Va./Bolles School) will swim the 100-meter freestyle, while current UVa volunteer assistant coach Doak Finch will compete in the 200-meter butterfly.
The Phillips 66 National Championships continue through Sunday, April 1 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.
