JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – The University of Virginia men’s golf team is in eighth place after the first day of competition at the Bank of Tennessee/The Ridges Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. The 14 teams in the tournament played 36 holes on Saturday (Sep. 9) and will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday (Sep. 10).
Texas Christian University leads the team competition with a 17-under-par total of 559 and South Carolina is second with a 565 total. Virginia has a team total of six-over-par 582. Leading the way for Virginia is senior Cameron Yancey, who had rounds of 70 and 71 on the Ridges Country Club par 72 golf course for a three-under-par total of 141. He is tied for ninth in the individual competition. Virginia junior Steve Marino is tied for 13th with a 142 total after two rounds of 71. Other players competing in the tournament for Virginia include sophomore Justin Goodhue (78-71-149), freshman Rusty Kennedy (76-75-151), and senior Mike Mitchell (81-74-155). The tournament’s individual leaders are Johan Kok (71-66) and Scott Feaster (68-69) of South Carolina with two round totals of seven under par 137.
