CAMDEN, N.J. – The University of Virginia women’s rowing team finished third out of 18 teams on Sunday (May 12) in the team competition at the Eastern Sprints on the Cooper River. Virginia’s performance was highlighted by a second place finish by the Cavaliers’ second varsity eight.
Princeton won the team competition’s Willing Point Trophy with 71 points followed by Brown (65), Virginia (64), Yale (62) and Radcliffe (60).
All six of the boats competing for UVa finished in the top six in their races. Virginia finished third in the second varsity four, fourth in the second novice eight and the first varsity four, fifth in the first novice eight and sixth in the first varsity eight.
Brown won the second varsity eight with a time of 6:37.20 and UVa was second (6:40.10). Yale finished third (6:44.40) followed by Radcliffe (6:47.00), Princeton (6:48.10) and Northeastern (6:49.10).
Princeton won the second varsity four in 7:53.90 followed by Cornell (7:55.90), Virginia (8:05.00), Yale (8:19.10), Boston University (8:27.00) and Syracuse (8:30.80).
Cornell won the second novice eight with a time of 7:14.10 and Princeton was second (7:15.10). Northeastern finished third (7:21.60) followed by Virginia (7:21.90), Radcliffe (7:25.20) and Navy (7:38.90).
Wisconsin won the first varsity four in 7:18.40 followed by Princeton (7:22.80), Cornell (7:27.20), Virginia (7:31.00), Boston University (7:48.80) and Yale (7:53.20).
Princeton finished first in the first novice eight with a time of 6:50.10 and Brown was second (6:51.80). Radcliffe finished third (6:54.30) followed by Yale (6:56.10), Virginia (7:02.80) and Navy (7:10.40).
Brown won the first varsity eight in 6:21.10 followed by Yale (6:25.10), Radcliffe (6:27.00), Princeton (6:28.90), Syracuse (6:32.00) and Virginia (6:38.50).
