Virginia's Jeff Kamrath & Dan Street Named To 2002 All-ACC Baseball Teams

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – University of Virginia baseball players Jeff Kamrath (Houston, Texas/Kinkaid) and Dan Street (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) were named to the 2002 All-Atlantic Coast Conference baseball team, as selected by a vote of the league’s nine head coaches. Kamrath and Street were both named to the 2002 All-ACC Second Team. The teams were announced at the 29th annual ACC Baseball Tournament and was headed by the Florida State Seminoles with seven All-ACC selections. The 2002 All-ACC baseball teams also include six players from Clemson and five players from Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. North Carolina and Virginia each earned two all-conference selections followed by N.C. State with one selection.
Florida State’s Ryan Barthelemy, Clemson’s Khalil Greene and N.C. State’s Brian Wright are all making their third-straight appearances on the all-conference team while the following players are making their second-straight appearance: Jeff Baker (Clemson), Dan Street (Virginia), Steve Reba (Clemson), Dave Bush (Wake Forest) and Matt Lynch (Florida State). The 2002 ACC Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year will be released on Monday, May 27.
Kamrath, a second-year right handed pitcher, started 15 of the 16 games he appeared in and finished the season with a record of 7-4 and a team-low ERA of 3.28. He pitched a team-high 96.0 innings and recorded a team-high 67 strikeouts while holding opponents to a team-best .227 batting average. Kamrath pitched two complete games for the Cavaliers including one shutout. His seven victories was a team-high figure.
Kamrath’s was named the ACC Co-Player of the week on April 30th he guided Virginia to a 5-1 upset victory over the then #10 ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (April 26th) when he pitched a complete game while allowing only one run on three hits through nine innings of play. Kamrath’s performance paced UVa to its first win over Georgia Tech in Atlanta in 14 years (since 1988) and broke the Yellow Jackets’ 27-game home winning streak. Prior to its 5-1 loss to Virginia, GT was undefeated at home with a 22-0 record and had beaten Virginia 18 consecutive times in Atlanta.
Street, a fourth-year third baseman/pitcher, started all 57 games he appeared in this season (52 at third base, five as a pitcher). He recorded a team-high figure in 12 different categories for UVa and posted a team-high .371 batting average after leading Virginia with 86 hits and 59 RBI to go along with a school-record (single season) 23 doubles. He turned in a team-high .659 SLG%, 153 total bases and four triples. Street also finished second on the team with 52 runs scored and 12 home runs.
Street started five of the seven appearances he made on the mound and went 3-0 with an ERA of 4.76. He pitched a total of 34.0 innings and struck out 22 batters.
