Newport, R.I – In its second competition of the year, the University of Virginia men?s golf team is currently placed tenth with a team score of 303 at the Adams Cup of Newport. All 36 holes were not completed due to darkness, leaving most players with two to three holes remaining to play, which will be completed on Wednesday morning.
Virginia Tech leads all teams in the first round with a score of 293. Georgia follows closely behind one par up with a score of 294, while Michigan State and Kentucky are tied in third with a score of 296. The Cavaliers currently sit tenth out of 17 teams.
Individually, Georgia State’s Kasper Jorgenson leads all golfers four under with a low score of 68. Kentucky’s Andy Dustman follows by just onestroke with a 69 (-3), while the third position is tied between four golfers, including Virginia’s Senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.), with a score of 71 (-1).
Following Goodlue for the Cavaliers is Junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) tied in 24th position with a score of 75 (+3). Senior Thomas Lee (Guttenburg, N.J.) shot a 78 (+6) to tie a spot in the 47th position. Following closely behind are teammates, Freshmen Eamon McLoughlin (Amityville, NY) and Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, NY) with scores of 79 (+7) and 80 (+8) respectively.
Virginia continues tourney play in the Adams Cup on Wednesday, Oct. 9. at the Newport (R.I.) Country Club, including the remaining holes from Tuesday, Oct. 8, which will be played at Newport National at 7 a.m.
