CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Football fans in attendance for Saturday’s clash between Virginia and North Carolina will be entertained by the Ohio University marching band, the University of Virginia Athletic Department announced on Tuesday.

“We’re excited about playing at such a great University and for a fine football team like Virginia,” said Richard Suk, director of the Ohio University’s marching band.

Known as the Marching 110, the musicians from Athens, Ohio, have performed throughout the nation in addition to entertaining Bobcat football fans. The group has also provided entertainment for the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cleveland Browns, and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. In December, the Marching 110 will perform at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., and at the NFL football game between the Steelers and Jaguars in Jacksonville, Fla.

“We’ve tried to find the best entertainment for our fans when the team is not on the field,” said Andrew Rader, Associate Athletic Director for Marketing, Promotions and Licensing. “That is a priority. The popularity and uniqueness of the Marching 110 made the band attractive to us. Their style is very unique, and our fans should enjoy and remember their performance.”

“The Marching 110 is very entertaining,” said Dick Mathias, UVa’s athletic ticket manager and Ohio University alumnus (class of 1971). “I think our fans will enjoy their contemporary music coupled with their very physical dancing style.”

Virginia (5-2, 3-1 ACC) hosts North Carolina (2-4, 0-2 ACC) at Noon on Saturday, Oct. 19. The game will be televised live by the ACC/Jefferson Pilot Network.
