Virginia Volleyball Loses 3-0 To 24th-Ranked Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Virginia volleyball team fell to 24th-ranked Georgia Tech 3-0 (30-24, 30-19, 30-17) Friday evening (October 25) at O’Keefe Gym. Second-year middle Alexis Geocaris (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) paced UVa with 12 kills. With the loss, the Cavaliers fall to 7-18 overall and 1-8 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 21-4 overall and remain in second place in the ACC with a 7-2 mark.
In addition to her 12 kills, Geocaris hit a match-high .476 and added a team-high five blocks to go along with five digs and the Cavaliers’ only service ace. Third-year outside hitter Paige Davis (Austin, Texas/Westlake) recorded nine kills, eight digs and four blocks for UVa. Second-year setter Lily Phillips (Phoenix, Ariz./Horizon) nearly recorded a double-double with 28 assists and nine digs. Third-year libero Whitney Ashcraft (Yorktown, Ind./Burris) led Virginia in digs with 11, her 21st double figure outing in digs.
The duo of Lauren Sauer and Lynnette Moster led Georgia Tech with 13 kills apiece. Sauer hit .458 and added a pair of blocks, while Moster tallied seven digs, three assists and two aces in the match. Setter Kele Eveland handed out 40 assists to go along with eight digs, six kills and two blocks. The trio of Jennifer Randall, Marissa Aston and Keight Vincent registered 36 digs with Randall leading the way with 15 of those defensive saves.
Georgia Tech hit .323 as a team with 52 kills, while the Cavaliers hit at a .115 clip with 36 kills. The Yellow Jackets also held a 58-51 edge in digs as well as a slight 7-5 advantage in team blocks.
Virginia returns to action on Saturday, October 26 when it travels to Clemson, S.C. for a 6:00 p.m. match against the Clemson Tigers.
