GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia’s Marquis Weeks and Jamaine Winborne have been selected as Atlantic Coast Conference football Players of the Week, ACC officials announced on Monday.

Weeks, a sophomore from Berwyn, Pa., had a career day rushing in the upset win over No. 20 NC State. He rushed for a career-high 129 yards on 19 carries, far surpassing his career total coming into the game, including 102 yards in the second half. Prior to the game, the tailback had rushed for 53 yards. Weeks had a 32-yard run in the fourth quarter, the longest of his career. He also had a 21-yard run in the second quarter. Weeks’ 129 yards are the most by a Cavalier runner since Antwoine Womack rushed for 153 yards against Penn State in the final game last season.

The ACC honor is the second this season and the second of his career. Weeks earned the Conference honor as a specialist on Oct. 21 following his school record 100-yard kickoff return in the win over North Carolina.

Winborne, a junior from Chesapeake, Va., had five solo tackles and one assist in Virginia’s upset of the Wolfpack. He recovered a NCSU fumble on the three-yard line, preventing the Wolfpack from scoring. The cornerback also recorded two pass break-ups, including the pass on the last NCSU play of the game, sealing the UVa victory.

The ACC honor is the first of Winborne’s career.

Virginia (7-4, 5-2 ACC) hosts No. 18 Maryland (9-2, 5-1 ACC) on Saturday, Nov. 23 in the home finale. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m and will be televised nationally by espn2. The Senior Class will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
