WINTERGREEN, Va. – The Canadian Tour announced Thursday that Wintergreen Resort will play host to the second annual Lewis Chitengwa Memorial Championship, presented by Aventis Pasteur this August.

Wintergreen’s 27-hole Stoney Creek course is set against Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains and has been ranked the 34th-best resort course in the United States by GolfWeek magazine. The Rees Jones’ layout features dramatic elevation changes that will prove to be a challenge for Tour players in their return trip to Virginia.

Chris Wisler won the inaugural Lewis Chitengwa Memorial Championship, named in honor of the Canadian Tour rookie who passed away suddenly in Edmonton two summers ago. Chitengwa, a native of Zimbabwe, was also a star player at the University of Virginia during his college days. AventisPasteur, a leader in vaccine research, development and production, is back on board as the title sponsor for the second consecutive year.

Mike Moraghan and those involved with the Lewis Chitengwa Foundation have worked very hard with us behind the scenes to ensure that this event continued to be a focal part of the Canadian Tour season,” said Commissioner Ian Mansfield. “We are extremely pleased to be working with Aventis Pasteur for the second straight year to bring this event to such a world-class facility, and we look forward to paying tribute to this fine young man once again this summer.”

The Lewis Chitengwa Memorial Championship will be held the week of August 11-17.
