INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Virginia has been seeded No. 8 in the Mideast Region of the 2003 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee announced on Sunday evening.
The Cavaliers (16-13) play No. 9 seed Illinois (17-11) in first round action on Saturday, March 22 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Host and No. 1 seed Tennessee (28-4) entertains No. 16 seed Alabama State (20-10) in the first game at 11 a.m. The winners advance to the second round game on Monday, March 24 at 9 p.m. All games will be played at Tennessee’s Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Virginia Athletic Ticket Office will take applications for tickets on Monday, March 17, beginning at 9 a.m. Applications will be accepted by telephone at 1-800-542-UVA1 (542-8821) or in person at the athletic ticket office located in Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium. Priority will go to Virginia Athletic Foundation members and season ticket holders.
Tickets, sold only as first and second round packages, are $20 (reserved seats). The package includes three games (two first round games and one second round game).
The winner of the second round advances the Mideast Regional, to be held March 29 and 31 at the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tenn.
