CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia women’s tennis player Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn, N.J.) was named the ACC Player of the Week Monday by league officials. A fourth-year member of the team, Tuchband earned her second conference player of the week recognition of the season by helping the Cavaliers to a pair of road wins. She was also honored by the ACC on January 27.
On Wednesday, Tuchband helped the Cavaliers to a 7-0 win at Richmond. She and Henriette Williams, ranked No. 40 nationally in doubles, defeated Vanessa Bagnato and Monika Peets 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Tuchband then defeated Megan Wolfgram 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. On Saturday, Tuchband led UVa to a win in the Cavaliers’ conference opener at No. 60 Florida State, 4-3. Tuchband and Williams defeated Amber Tantee and Daniela Gheorghe 8-5 at No. 1 doubles before Tuchband downed Gheorge at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-1.
Tuchband is 11-2 in dual matches this season, and 21-5 in singles overall. Tuchband’s honor this week, teamed with Rylan Rizza’s recognition as ACC men’s tennis Player of the Week marks the first time in Virginia history that Cavaliers have earned both awards in the same week.
The No.38 Cavaliers return to action on Wednesday, March 19, as they host Virginia Tech. The match will be at the Snyder Tennis Center and start at 1:30 p.m.
