CHARLOTTESVILLE – University of Virginia senior center/forward Jason Rogers (Staunton, Va.) will be out of action a minimum of two weeks after being diagnosed with mononucleosis.
The 6-11 Rogers started Virginia’s last two games. He had career-high totals of 12 points, six rebounds, five field goals and 21 minutes played in the Cavaliers’ 80-78 overtime victory against nationally-ranked Maryland at University Hall on March 9. He also blocked three shots, was 5-6 from the field and 2-4 from the free throw line in that game.
In UVa’s 83-76 loss to nationally-ranked Duke in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on March 14, Rogers scored four points, blocked three shots, had two rebounds and a career-high two steals in 16 minutes of action.
Rogers has played in 11 games this season and is averaging 2.8 points and 1.6 rebounds a game.
Virginia hosts Brown University in a first round game in the 2003 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) on Wednesday (March 19, 7:30 p.m.) at University Hall.
