CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The 13th-ranked Virginia women’s swimming and diving team is sending a school record of 12 women to compete in the 2003 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships which are being hosted by Auburn University. The meet will be held at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center in Auburn, Alabama, Thursday March 20 through Saturday, March 22. The Cavaliers look to improve upon last year’s 12th-place finish at the national meet when they sent 10 swimmers to the NCAA Championships.

Virginia has entrants in 11 of the 13 individual swimming events (every event except the 100 and 200 breaststroke) and are also competing in four of the five relays. The Cavaliers have multiple entrants in seven events. UVa has seven entrants in the 500 free, five in the 1650 free and 400 individual medley, and three in the 200 backstroke and 200 butterfly. Listed below is an entire breakdown of Virginia’s event entrants.
Third-year Amy Baly (Atlanta, Ga./Marist School) – 400 I.M., 1650 Free, and 500 Free
First-year Cory Berg (Hyde Park, N.Y./F.D. Roosevelt) – 200 Back
Fourth-year Mirjana Bosevska (Skopje, Macedonia/Trinity Prep) – 1650 Free, 400 I.M., and 200 I.M.
First-year Rachael Burke (Bethesda, Md./Good Counsel) – 1650 Free, 500, and 200 Free
Third-year Carlie Dykehouse (Gainesville, Fla./Trinity Prep) – 200 Free, 200, and 500 Free
Second-year Andrea Georoff (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) – 50 Free, 100 Free, and 100 Fly
First-year Katie Gordon (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) – 500 Free, 400 I.M., and 200 Back
Fourth-year Cara Lane (Charlotte, N.C./Providence) – 1650 Free, 500 Free, and 400 I.M.
Second-year Katie McWilliams (Stratford, Conn./Bunnell) – 1650 Free and 500 Free
Third-year Cynthia Roller (Herndon, Va./Herndon) – 100 Fly and 200 Fly
First-year Brielle White (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside School) -100 Back and 200 Back
Second-year Kate Wrenshall (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bolles School) – 500 Free, 200 Fly, and 400 I.M.

Virginia has six swimmers who are seeded in the top 10 for their events. Bosevska is seeded eighth in the 1650 free (16:17.57) and ninth in the 400 I.M. (4:13.14). Burke is also seeded in the top 10 twice, with a six seed in the 1650 free (16:11.21) and a 10 seed in the 500 free (4:44.26). White’s school record time of 54.01 seeds her seventh in the 100 backstroke, and Georoff is ranked ninth in the 50 free (22.74). Lane, a two-time national champion and three-time first-team All-American in the mile, is seeded 14th in the 1650 free. The Cavaliers are also ranked 16th for their entry in the 800 free relay.

Bosevska, Georoff, and Lane each earned first-team All-America honors at the 2002 NCAA Championships, while Baly and Dykehouse were honorable mention All-Americans. Bosevska was a first-team All-American in the 400 and 200 I.M.s with third and eighth-place finishes, respectively. Lane was third in the 1650 free and fourth in the 500 free to capture first-team honors. Georoff earned first-team All-America accolades as a member of UVa’s eighth place 200 free relay. Georoff was also an honorable mention All-American in the 50 free (14th) and as a member of the Cavaliers’ 400 free relay (10th) along with Dykehouse. Dykehouse joined Bosevska and Lane on Virginia’s honorable mention 800 free relay (10th). Baly was an honorable mention All-American in the 1650 free (ninth), 500 free (16th) and 400 I.M. (16th) in 2002.
