CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 37 Virginia women’s tennis team began their four match homestand Wednesday with a 7-0 victory in-state rival Virginia Tech. The win improves the Cavaliers record to 10-4 on the season.

Virginia opened the match by sweeping the doubles matches. The ranked Cavalier duos of No. 40 Henriette Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) and Jennifer Tuchband (Millburn, N.J.) and No. 38 Kristen James (Clifton, Va.) and Lori Stern (Ojai, Calif.) won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles respectively while first-years Lauren Bruch (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Kyle Montgomery (Charlottesville, Va.) won at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, the Cavaliers quickly clinched the dual match as Williams, Tuchband, and James cruised to wins at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Bruch, Dora and Marta Bechliwanis (Etobicoke, Ont.) completed the sweep with wins at No. 6, No. 4, and No. 5 singles.

“I felt we had been practicing well recently and that carried into today’s match,” stated Virginia head coach Phil Rogers. “This was as good as we have played as a team for a while and I am hopeful that we will continue to improve.”

Virginia continues their homestand on Monday as the Cavaliers host No. 22 Oregon at the Snyder Tennis Center at 2:00 p.m.
