Men’s Golf Stands 14th at Furman Intercollegiate

GRENVILLE, S.C.- – The Virginia men’s golf team stands 14th after the opening round of the Furman Intercollegiate on Saturday.

Following a delayed tee off due to rain and wet course conditions, Virginia Tech’s Chris McKeel fired a five-under 67 to take the individual lead and pace the Hokies to a tournament-best 290. Furman is second after carding a three-over 291, while Coastal Carolina is third at 293 (+5). Francis Marion is fourth at 296 (+8). The Cavaliers shot a 306 (+18).

Elon’s J.D. McNeill and Fruman’s Rob Langley are within striking distance of the individual title with a two-uner 70 each. Six golfers, including Virginia freshman Brad Tilley (Chappaqua, N.Y.), are tied for fourth at even par.

Junior Jeremy Luce (Austin, Texas) fired a 77 (+5) to tie for 51st, while senior Justin Goodhue (Glastonbury, Conn.) follows by one stroke with a 78 (+6). Freshman Eamonn McLoughlin (Amityville, N.Y.) shot a 79 (+7), and sophomore Craig Cook-Stevenson (Sutton-Coldfield, England) finished an 80 (+8).

Round two of the three-round Intercollegiate is set to begin at 8 a.m.Saturday, March 22 at the Furman Golf Course.
